Captains Address for the 2010 Season
I am honoured to have been chosen to be your Captain for 2010 and I am also pleased that Graham Plant has accepted the Vice Captaincy as his past involvement with Golf Club committee work will be invaluable. Together we hope to make the 2010 season an enjoyable one for all members.
No radical changes to the way the golf has been organised in the past are planned with the exception of the White Heather competition. A trophy for the winner with the least number of putts will continue but there will also be a trophy for the lowest nett score. This should make it a more competitive event for all players.
The usual three handicap qualifying competitions each month will be continued namely, the Captains Trophy, the Dunvegan Shield and the Monthly Medal.
There will be a roll-up every Tuesday when a variety of game formats will be organised including individual, pairs and team events. On Fridays there will be the White Heather, Dunvegan Shield, Captains Trophy and Monthly Medals interspersed with other events such as Old Vs. New Captains on 8th January, Drew New Year Cup on 22nd January and our Presidents Day on 12th March.
The fixture list for the entire year has not yet been drawn up but details to the 28th May are on the notice board. During June, July and August the Summer League will be played and I am grateful to Lloyd who has once again agreed to organise this.
Very many thanks to the sponsors of the monthly medals for their early show of support by filling all available dates. This is a great start for 2010.
The question of the condition of the course is always one of concern to all members so I would therefore remind you to repair pitch marks and rake bunkers so that conditions for following players are as good as possible.
It is anticipated that social events will be organised at regular intervals during the year. These may include evenings at various ethnic restaurants, the Sand Festival, theatre trips etc., details of which will all be posted on the notice board with sign-up sheets in due course.
It only remains for me to wish all members a successful years golf and please note that I will be looking for the most improved player during the season who will receive a special individual trophy to mark their achievement.
Happy Golfing in 2010.
Dick Chessman,
Captain.
